Health Insurance
All full-time employees are eligible for health insurance. Northwood offers two plans: a high deductible plan with or without a Health Savings Account and a 200/400 deductible plan. Both plans permit employees to choose virtually any physician/hospital in the country without a referral. Dental and vision insurance are also available.
Retirement Plan
Eligible employees are encouraged to enroll in Northwood Health Systems’ retirement plan upon hire. Employees may contribute a portion of their earnings into the plan from the first day of employment. Northwood contributes to each employee’s retirement once the employee (a) is twenty-one (21) years of age, (b) has been employed for a year, and (c) has worked for 1,000 hours. At the end of each fiscal year, based on the corporation’s performance, Northwood decides on a percentage to contribute to employee retirement plans. Northwood’s contribution is made regardless of whether or not the employee makes their own contribution.
Employees hired as full-time are eligible for the following benefits:
Life Insurance: Life insurance is provided for free, in an amount equal to twice the employee’s annual salary. The full premium for this benefit is paid by Northwood.
Dependent Life Insurance: Insurance on the employee’s dependents is an optional benefit available at a minor cost to the employee. It covers a spouse for $5,000, children up to the age of 19 (or 25 if they are full-time students) for $1,000, and children less than 6 months old for $500.
Paid Days Off: Paid Days Off are granted to eligible employees according to years of service. Employees will receive their Paid Days Off balance each January 1 to use as they desire throughout the calendar year. Balances are not carried over to the following year.
Short-term Disability Insurance: Eligible employees are paid at sixty percent (60%) of the employee’s wages up to a maximum of $300 per week. Northwood is self-insured and fully pays for this benefit.
Long-term Disability Insurance: Eligible employees are paid at sixty percent (60%) of the employee’s salary when the employee becomes permanently disabled. The premiums for this benefit are paid solely by Northwood.
Employee Assistance Program: Employees and their dependents are eligible to receive three (3) free hourly visits with an approved care giver after completing one (1) year of continuous service.
Holidays: Eligible employees receive 8 holidays (8 hours each) per year. Recognized holidays are: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, the day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
